What is Echium?

Native to the Mediterranean, preferring the thin, dry soils, Echium grows about 75cm in height and has a varied flower colour from white to mauve and pink.

The crop has to be swathed before harvesting as it is an indeterminate plant and will therefore keep flowering and settling seed throughout the growing season.

Uses of Echium?

Echium is grown for exctraction of oil from its seed. Like borage, the oil contains Gamma-linolenic Acid as well as Stearidonic Acid.

It is a plant based alternative for fish oil and a good source of Omega 3, 6 & 9.

It is used as health supplements and has anti-flammatory properties , positive effects on immunity, cardiovascular, skin, joint and brain health.
